March '08 Venom

The Venom Story
The 4 founding members of Venom, Oscar Laboy, Betsy Laboy, Carlos Solano, and Andres Medina, met while playing for a local team called Stealth 187. This was roughly around June of 2005. They were all relatively new to the sport and were looking to become part of a team. Training became more serious and they began to gain experience in a team environment.
Unfortunately, the team began moving in a direction that they were not all comfortable with and the tough decision was made to leave Stealth 187 and form their own team. Thus Venom was born.
The goal was to create a team with a solid core and a positive team dynamic. They started out as teammates, very quickly became friends, and before they knew it they became a family. None of them had much experience and had little to no outside guidance, so the team relied heavily on that dynamic to push each other. The team put 110% into building a solid foundation for the team to grow.
The following year Venom began competing in local tournaments to gain experience. After some disappointing finishes, and a few rude awakenings, the team began realizing what they needed to work on to play at a competitive level. Unfortunately, just as the team started building some steam, injuries and other extenuating circumstances forced the team to go on a temporary hiatus. It was difficult to take something they had put so much time and effort into and push it to the side, but they knew their efforts would not be in vain.
Roughly 8 months later, Venom returned to paintball healthy, and with a new found determination. The team picked up where they had left off and began drilling and scrimmaging regularly. They also added a 5th player to the roster, Danny Caceras.
Venom began competing in local tournaments once again and the performances were much stronger. They soon had shown enough to garner their first sponsor, and more importantly they now had a place they could call home. NYC Paintball Field was where Venom was born so it was fitting that they would be the team's first sponsor.
The team continued working extremely hard, and began drilling and scrimmaging with more experienced teams and players. They were looking to gain knowledge and grow as a team so they also began adding more players to the roster.
In 2007 Venom entered The GPL, their first regional tournament series. Venom entered 3 separate 3-man teams in the series. Throughout the series the venom teams had numerous top 10 finishes including 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The Venom teams placed 3rd and 6th overall in the tournament series out of over 60 teams entered.
Venom currently has an 11 player roster, and continues adding new players who share the same level of dedication to the team and to the game of paintball. The team is not about scouting only the best players, but rather to form a team of likeminded, focused individuals who are willing to work hard and work as a team. The team has faced struggles and has learned the importance of building a strong team dynamic.
Venom plans to continue competing on a regional level and the goal is to eventually move towards competing on a national level. Whether the decision is to play 3 man, 5 man, 7man, or X ball, it is most important to always stay true to what the team was built on. Venom began as 4 individuals who shared a love for the game of paintball and they stand now a family of 11 who are there for each other both on and off the field.
